Sheldon Patten is a lens based artist from Toronto, Canada, currently based in Tucson, Arizona.
His practice centers historically Black communities shaped by displacement, environmental harm, and the erosion of promised prosperity. His earlier work - Like a Rose - examines the intimate bond between the artist and their mother as they navigate her living with Parkinson’s disease, tracing caregiving, loss of autonomy and the transformation of identity confronted by neurodegenerative illness. Centered on intimate human moments, His work makes visible the coexistence of vulnerability and endurance within collective resilience.
Sheldon Patten is a current MFA Student at the University of Arizona in Photo, Video and Imaging (PVI).
